“Give me one hundred men who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergyman or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the kingdom of Heaven upon the earth.”
-John Wesley

13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14 Do everything in love.
–1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Be on your guard
- Watch yourself, we’re often our own worst enemies
- Put on the Armour of God, see Ephesians 6:10-18
- Know what tempts (triggers) you
- HALTS, being Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired or Stressed
Stand firm in the faith
- You have to understand what faith is.
- Don’t coast, spin your wheels, or go through the motions. There is too much at stake.
- How do you stand firm when you don’t have a solid foundation?
- You don’t, you turn to your ‘default setting’
Be men of courage; be strong
- Don’t act like a kid anymore. You’re grown, stop acting like a child
- Grow up in your faith in God
- Be strong in the Lord, in the power of His might
Do everything in love
- What is love? See 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
- Balance truth & love. See 2 John 1:4-6
This is not a do it yourself project. This can only be done with the help of God.
You cannot be a man of God apart from the power of God. You cannot be a man of God apart from the filling of the Holy Spirit. You cannot be a man of God apart from God working from the inside out to create the character of Christ in you.
You can’t do it on your own. You need other guys to keep you accountable. Guys that will ask the tough questions. Guys that will pray for you.
